The Best Way to Store Your Snowmobile

Now that riding season is coming to an end, it’s time to store away your toy so it’s ready to rock the trails next winter. Before securing a cover over your sled to protect it from the elements and critters making it their summer home, you need to take some precautions.

Some tips for storing your snowmobile:

1. Be sure to change the oil and filter to remove any contaminants that may be in the engine. Fresh oil provides better lubrication during storage.

2. To prevent the fuel from deteriorating while your sled is in storage, add a fuel stabilizer to the gas. Run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the stabilizer throughout the fuel system.

3. Remove your snowmobile’s battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Recharge it periodically over the warmer months.

4. Now that you’ve made sure your engine will be healthy when it starts to snow again, it’s time to clean the outside. Wash your snowmobile with soap and water, then dry it completely with a towel or air compressor.

5. Store your snowmobile in a dry and cool location, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Do not store near any heat sources.

6. Cover the sled body completely with a secure, durable, waterproof Terre Products snowmobile cover. Our covers are specifically designed to protect your investment from the elements and prevent rusting of the body, rotting of wires, and potential clogging of the engine. A secure snowmobile cover will also prevent small animals from making a home in your machine.

Follow these steps so when the snow starts to fly again, your snowmobile is in good condition to hit the trails.

* Consult your snowmobile owner's manual or seek assistance from a professional if you are unsure about any aspect of snowmobile storage. *
